The School of Midwifery Bo is Now Accepting Applications from Qualified Candidates with a Passion for Improving Maternal and Newborn Health Outcomes and Reducing Maternal Mortality in Sierra Leone
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
- The candidates must have five credits (Aggregate 21) in WASSCE (C6 or better) in not more than 2 sittings in the following subjects:
- English Language – Math/Further Math – Chemistry
- Biology/Health Science – Core Sciences/Physics
- The training is opened to both Males and Female applicants who meet the admission criteria between the ages of 18 – 40 years. Note: 18-25 years for Year One SSS3 leavers.
RECRUITMENT AND SELECTION PROCESS
- Completed application should be accompany by copies of birth certificates, school leaving certificates, WASSCE results and recommendation letters (where applicable).
- Only shortlisted candidates will be invited for interview. Original documents as stated in the advertisement will be required.
- Selected candidates will go through a health screening for fitness by a government employed medical doctor
ENTRY LEVELS
- Eligible Candidates with SSS3 certificate/SECHN/MCHA will enter the programme in Year ONE
- Eligible Candidates with SRN and SECHN (with midwifery) will enter the programme in Year TWO
- Eligible Candidates with SRN/DEM (with midwifery) will enter the programme in Year THREE
A working experience will be considered where appropriate.

The Catholic Diocese of Bo seeks to employ a candidate with evidence of high skills in transformational programming in a faith-based organization as Director of Caritas Sierra Leone Bo.
Caritas Sierra Leone Bo is a member of Caritas Internationalis and registered with the government of Sierra Leone as a church and charitable organisation. A faith based Organisation with 37 years of experience in the field of Development Cooperation and Humanitarian assistance. It is responsible for the development and charity work of the Diocese of Bo. Operational areas are: Bo, Bonthe, Moyamba and Pujehun Districts. Key thematic intervention areas are: Health, Child Protection, Food safety and security including School Feeding, Education, Relief and Livelihoods. Donors are: BMZ/GIZ, UNICEF, UNFPA, UNFAO, UNPBF, Kindermissionswerk, Tufts / USAID, Missio, Cordaid, Action Medeor and Manos Unidas. Programmes are inspired by the Catholic Social Teachings with the mission to eradicate poverty, promote social justice and enhance human dignity.
Job Title: Director, Caritas Sierra Leone Bo
Reports To: The Bishop and Advisory Board
Location: Bo Head Office with frequent travels to district offices and Freetown.
Main Purpose of Role:
The Director of Caritas SL Bo is responsible for the overall leadership and management of charitable programmes and projects in the Diocese.
Key responsibilities:
- Work with parishes, diocesan institutions, donors, other Ministries Departments and Agencies.
- Coordinate the day-to-day activities with various stakeholders of caritas SL Bo.
- He / She will monitor all programmes, project activities, budgets and assets of Caritas SL, Bo
- Lead the process of developing fundable proposals, mobilizing resources to support programmes and conduct a donor mapping to identify potential donors and fundable projects.
- Track and maintain a register of project/Programme/funding closure deadlines and ensure donor reports are written and submitted as per contract
- Coordinate technical linkage amongst the various programmes and projects
- Lead in the preparation of the organization’s strategic plan, budget preparation and development of tools for improving the quality of sub-projects implementation.
- Lead the preparation of technical papers and project/Programme Implementation manuals for Caritas SL Bo.
- Lead the process of developing and rolling medium term plan including facilitating annual Programme planning events and periodic project performance reviews.
- Provide weekly and quarterly updates to the Bishop and the Advisory Board.
- In consultation with the President of Caritas SL Bo, coordinate quarterly Advisory Board Meetings and Information sharing sessions.
- Work with the finance team to conduct annual project and organizational audits with actionable improvement plans drawn
- Lead staff performance appraisals every six months.
- Coordinate and support the National and other Diocesan Caritas offices
Skills/Competencies
- Knowledge in the social teachings of the Catholic Church
- Sound Knowledge of computer software – Microsoft Office, Zoom and Skype
- Very good leadership skills.
- Ability to attract projects and write well-articulated reports
- Ability to identify problems, evaluate options, and quickly implement solutions.
- High level personal and public interaction skills
- Ability to analyze and interpret budgets, financial statements and audit reports
- Ability to communicate at all levels of the business
- Strong problem solving and decision making skills.
Experience, Knowledge and Qualifications
- A degree or equivalent qualification in Development Studies and/or related Social Sciences (Master’s degree will be an added advantage)
- Vast knowledge in coordinating multiple donor projects and people management
- Excellent knowledge of contract, project financing and grant management
- Should be experienced at monitoring and evaluating community-led projects.
- Must have 7-10 years of professional experience in a similar role
